It was a perfect evening. The soft, gentle air was neither too warm nor the slightest bit chilly. The almost-full moon brightening in the trees to the southeast added a special touch. In short, a perfect way to finish off another season of Potlucks In The Park.

Maybe it was the full moon, but only 48 of the 71 who said they were coming showed up, but that just meant a little more cake for those that did. The kids played on the grass; the dogs were well behaved; the food was good with some creative dishes topping the list.

Debbie Kundrat's black bean and brown rice casserole was a hit, as were several chicken dishes, and Amy Freiha's pumpkin miniture muffins. Jenny Patterson's home made fig cake got the dessert kudos. And, when Elizabeth Watson-Semmons came by and tasted it, she invited anyone in earshot to contact her if they wanted to come pick plenty of ripe figs at her place.

Ramsey Freiha got the award for speediest scooter as he dashed about with his helmet on. Birthday kids, within a week, included Kimberly Caltagirone (today), plus Sophia Sears, (& I think) Mira Sears, and even yours truly.

With the autumnal equinox now astern, old sol dipped below the trees early, and it was quite dark as the tables were cleared and the water jug emptied at 7:30. It was a great season for potlucks - all the more reason to look forward to 2010!
